Paul Robinson predicts Kristoffer Klaesson debut for Leeds United v Crewe

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson predicts Kristoffer Klaesson will be handed his senior debut for Leeds United when they play Crewe in the Carabao Cup this week.

Klaesson, 20, joined the Whites from Valerenga this summer to serve as Marcelo Bielsa’s second-choice goalkeeper this season.

He played for the Under-23s when they beat Crystal Palace in Premier League 2 last week.

However, Robinson wants to see the young Norwegian shot-stopper get as many opportunities in Bielsa’s first-team as possible.

And the ex-Leeds goalkeeper predicts Klaesson will start for Leeds when they play Crewe at Elland Road on Tuesday night.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I think Klaesson will come in and be given an opportunity.

He’s a young goalkeeper who’s very inexperienced and if that’s the way the manager is going to go this season with just [Illan] Meslier and Klaesson, he needs to give him some game-time.

If anything was to happen with Meslier – form, injury or suspension – it would be a huge risk to put the youngster straight into a Premier League fixture.

It’s important for him to play in cup matches where he can.”

Meslier has conceded seven goals in his first two appearances of the season for Leeds with Biesla’s side losing 5-1 to Manchester United and drawing on Saturday 2-2 with Everton.

Kiko Casilla was loaned out to Elche earlier in the summer, leaving Bielsa with an very inexperienced goalkeeper department.
