Paul Robinson: Leeds United deal for Okay Yokuslu 'Could be done'
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Leeds United could strike a deal to sign Celta Vigo midfielder Okay Yokuslu despite Victor Orta’s recent admission, according to Paul Robinson.
Speaking to Radio Galega, the Leeds director of football said it’s “difficult” to sign the 27-year-old Turkey international, who did well while on loan at West Brom last season.
Orta also revealed that he does like the defensive midfielder and did well in his half-season loan spell at The Hawthorns despite West Brom’s relegation.
Ex-Leeds goalkeeper Robinson is also a fan of Yokuslu.
He feels that despite Orta saying a deal is hard to complete, something could still happen if Yokuslu becomes unhappy at Celta Vigo.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I think Celta Vigo are a club you should be able to deal with. I think a deal could be done.
“He’s certainly a player who’s able to play in the Premier League and I think when he’s made aware of the Premier League interest, it’s very hard to keep a player who doesn’t want to be at a club.
“A club of that stature in Spain, there should be an attraction to play in the Premier League for Leeds United.
“I think he could be a really good signing for Leeds if they are able to get him.
“His team (Turkey) were poor at the Euros but I think he was the only one in the team who played well.”
Yokuslu did prove himself to be more than capable of performing in the Premier League while on loan at West Brom last season.
Sam Allardyce landed the Turkish ace to bolster his midfield and he did a very good job of that as Albion’s defence had a superb extra bit of protection in front of them.
Leeds have Kalvin Phillips who plays in that deep midfield role and it would be good to have someone to serve as a back-up for him.
However, Yokuslu is more of a blockade of a midfield rather than someone who dictates play like Phillips.
We’ll see how this goes but it’s interesting to see Orta come out and speak about the player.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims Marcelo Bielsa wants this Premier League player badly.
