Paul Robinson: ‘Incredible’ injury situation at Leeds will give Joe Gelhardt more chances
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Paul Robinson has insisted that the injury situation at Leeds United will only hand Joe Gelhardt more chances over Christmas.
The former Whites stopper has exclusively told MOT Leeds News that Marcelo Bielsa cannot carry so many setbacks in his squad.
Gelhardt came off the bench to score in the 3-2 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday (12th December) and become our youngest goalscorer in the Premier League since James Milner.

“We know what a talent he is,” he told MOT Leeds News. “We’re only going to start seeing more and he’s going to have more of an impact.
“Because of the number of injuries they’ve got, maybe he’s got his opportunity earlier than he possibly would have done.
“He’s come off the bench and we will start to see him more – you look at the club, they can’t carry the number of injuries they’ve got – it’s incredible.
“He played really well, he always has an impact when he comes on. He’s got that threat and he just looks a lot more mature and older than his years.
“With him being so young, he’s only going to get better because he’s got such a old head on young shoulders.”

Bring it on.
The celebrations and wild scenes after Gelhardt scored on Saturday were excellent to see, and we can’t wait for more.
Bielsa most likely will make few if zero changes at The Etihad, so Gelhardt may have to wait from the bench for another chance.
It will be interesting to see the teamsheet, but as Robinson said, we can’t continue to manage this many injuries.
