Paul Robinson: Helder Costa could exit Leeds amid talks to sign Kvaratskhelia
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Rubin Kazan winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has confirmed he’s held talks about a potential move to Leeds United and Paul Robinson claims that could spell the end of Helder Costa’s stay at Elland Road.
As quoted by Georgian website Sportall, 20-year-old Kvaratskhelia said that “there were negotiations with Leeds” and he added that they “may continue again”.
As Kvaratskhelia is a winger, ex-Leeds goalkeeper Robinson believes that Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta could operate with a one-in-one-out policy this summer, especially in the already-bloated wide area of the squad.
“If Leeds are looking for another winger, it tells you that one of them is going to be on the boat and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Helder Costa,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.
“I don’t think he’s played particularly well this season, he’s been in and out of the team and he might be looking for a regular opportunity to play.
“If Leeds strengthen that area it suggests it’ll be one out and one in.”
Costa joined Leeds permanently from Wolves for £16million [BBC Sport] last summer but it would be fair to say he hasn’t had the expected impact at Elland Road.
While he started the season with a couple of promising performances, including a brace in the 4-3 win over Fulham back in September.
But since Raphinha’s emerge in the Premier League, Costa’s struggled and we wouldn’t be gutted to see the back of the one-time Portugal international, in all honesty.
