Paul Robinson: Government circuit breaker would be perfect for Leeds United

Paul Robinson has insisted that a circuit breaker in the Premier League would be perfect for Leeds United this season.

The ex-Whites goalkeeper has insisted that a break would allow Marcelo Bielsa to welcome back most of his injured players.

Boris Johnson and the Government have been said to be considering a small lockdown after Christmas, something which could affect football.

“It could benefit Leeds,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News. “The best thing that could happen for Leeds is a break.

“To get some of these injuries, illnesses sorted and players back into the team. A break would be the best thing.

“I can see why the Premier League want to continue from a players’ point of view, I’d want it to continue as well.

“It’s getting to the point now where it is not a level competition. For Leeds, it would be great to get players back.”

Best case?

Even if the government do introduce a circuit breaker or a lockdown, it is hard to imagine them cancelling the entire Premier League calendar.

Last season was stopped temporarily and then played behind closed doors, another thing that could benefit the Whites.

Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper, Patrick Bamford, Dan James and Rodrigo are just some of the names who could return in January – something that the break could accelerate.

Bielsa needs all the help he can get, and although he would never admit or call for it, stopping games for a couple of weeks would certainly benefit him massively.
