Paul Robinson: Crysencio Summerville could be in Leeds United squad v Crewe

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson expects Crysencio Summerville to be in the Leeds United squad to play Crewe in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

Summerville, 19, joined the Whites last year but the Dutch attacker is yet to earn a senior debut despite making Marcelo Bielsa’s squad three times.

He’s consistently impressed for the Under-23s, scoring seven goals and supplying six assists in 13 Premier League 2 appearances for the Yorkshire club.

And while many may think Tuesday night’s clash with Crewe is a perfect opportunity for Summerville to get his debut, Robinson feels the Dutchman may have to make do with a spot on Bielsa’s bench.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “He’ll be in and around the squad.

Bielsa changed it up a lot in the cup last season and used a lot of youngsters on the bench and some started.

With the fixtures Leeds have got coming up, I’ve got no doubt he’ll change it up and put some youngsters in the side.

If you look at the squad now, it’s strong enough for two Premier League XIs to be named.

I don’t think Bielsa will change it up enough to give Summerville his debut but I think he’ll be in the squad.”

Leeds have consistently struggled in the cups since Bielsa’s arrival in West Yorkshire in 2018.

Last term, the Whites were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Hull City when they were in League One before League Two’s Crawley beat them in the FA Cup.

Crewe will go into their game against Leeds without any wins from their first four League One fixtures.
