Paul Robinson fails to understand why Leeds United are still yet to announce that Marcelo Bielsa’s new contract has been agreed.
Bielsa has technically been out of contract since the end of last season but the Argentine has still been overseeing pre-season training and has managed the Whites in their friendly fixtures.
Sky Sports Italy journalist Fabrizio Romano reported via a live broadcast on his Twitch account last week that a new contract for Bielsa will be officially announced “soon”.
With the Premier League season set to kick off this weekend, it seems like it’s a given that Bielsa’s deal will be announced.
However, ex-Leeds goalkeeper Robinson is baffled by the protracted wait for an official update.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, he said: “I think it’s been over the line for a while but I just don’t understand the timing of the announcement unless they want it to make an impact at the start of the season.
“There’s no logical reason I can think of that they wouldn’t announce it other than it not being finished.
“As far as I’m aware it’s been done for a while because he’s been working in pre-season for a while.
“It’ll be a bit anticlimactic when it happens because it’s one of the worst kept secrets in the world.”
Bielsa never signs for more than one year at a time and last year, we had to wait until the last minute before the Premier League campaign kicked off before the Argentine officially put pen to paper.
Whether he’s done that or not just yet remains unknown but it’s almost 100 per cent certain that he won’t be going anywhere.
Bielsa won’t have wasted his summer just to leave on the eve of a new Premier League season.
