Fabrizio Romano: Leeds United set to issue Marcelo Bielsa contract announcement soon
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims Leeds United fans will not have to wait long for an announcement over Marcelo Bielsa’s future.
Appearing via a live broadcast on his official Twitch account, Romano was asked by a Whites supporter for any club news.
Romano replied: “Leeds United news, soon a new contract will be announced for Marcelo Bielsa.”
Never in doubt
Of course, there has been some posturing in the media with constant commentators and pundits suggesting Bielsa may not end up signing a new contract, and that there was uncertainty at Elland Road.
Leeds fans always knew the truth, though, that he would inevitably put pen to paper to extend his stay in West Yorkshire.
Bielsa has form for leaving it late – he did so last year by signing a new contract on the eve of the new season.
He looks set to leave it similarly late this year, with our Premier League opener against Manchester United at Old Trafford just eight days away.
It would have been some breakaway for him not to agree on a new deal, given that he has overseen our whole pre-season campaign and players like Junior Firpo have been bought from Barcelona under his watch.
His new contract is unlikely to be a long-term one again – that’s just not how he operates – but it doesn’t mean he will give any less effort in his desire to push us even further up the table after last season’s sensational ninth-placed finish.
After a season of adaptation, this Whites side could reach even greater heights under El Loco, and this time there will be fans in stadiums to witness the greatness.
It’s sure to be an exciting campaign, and we’re glad Bielsa is set to be a part of it once again.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have made an approach to sign an English forward whose value is rising every time he plays.
