Patrick Bamford injury update thrills Sky pundit ahead of Leeds United clash v Tottenham

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United.

Patrick Bamford could make his long-awaited return for Leeds United after the international break is over when the Yorkshire giants travel to Tottenham.

Bamford, 28, hasn’t played since mid-September due to an ankle injury and after the draw with Leicester on Sunday, he’s now missed more Premier League matches this season than he has played in.

However, it looks as though the striker could be fit for Leeds when they play Spurs in North London on November 21.

According to injury expert Ben Dinnery, that game is when Bamford could make his return to Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.

And after seeing Leeds struggle in the early stages of this season, former Whites goalkeeper Paul Robinson has preached about just how crucial Bamford is to Bielsa’s squad and the system he plays.

Robinson has compared Leeds’ situation with Tottenham’s as there’s a massive reliable upon Harry Kane in their side.

And according to the former shot-stopper, it’s the same at Elland Road.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “Bamford has been a huge miss.

They’ve tried different people there: Rodrigo has been tried there, Dan James has been tried there and even Jack Harrison played there partly against Leicester. But that team doesn’t really work without Bamford.

They rely heavily on him, they haven’t got a replacement for him up top.

We’ve seen it a lot at Tottenham with the way they’ve played under Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho with Kane up front on his own.

If Kane’s not there, Heung-min Son plays there and it’s the same with Leeds and Rodrigo or Raphinha plays there. Leeds function the same way.

Leeds have had a lot of injury problems since the start of the season with Kalvin Phillips and Bamford out for long periods but they are the two players Leeds cannot play without.

They’re absolutely critical to the way they play.”

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has said if Raphinha is pushing to quit the club amid interest from PSG.
