Patrick Bamford has to go ‘if he’s banging down Farke door at Leeds’

Leeds United must replace Patrick Bamford if the striker’s injury setbacks are to be a problem for the remainder of the season, Paul Robinson has said.

The 31-year-old has yet to start a Championship fixture this season, now missing back-to-back games against Hull City and Harrogate Town after being ruled out until February with a hamstring issue.

Despite the forward’s injury record this term, Blackburn Rovers are the latest team to enter the transfer race for Bamford [The Sun on Sunday], with League One’s Wrexham also keeping tabs [Ben Jacob].

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “Unless they can bring someone else in, there’s no point selling him. If he wants to go and is banging the manager’s door down, there’s a problem and a decision to be made.

“If his injuries are going to be a problem between now and the end of the season, however, they need someone else. Look at Joe Gelhardt, who has played seven minutes of Championship football this season.

“Bamford is the next best option after Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph. The squad they’ve got is good enough, but if Bamford wants to leave, they need to replace him with the same quality or better.

“Right now, there’s no need to force him out the door.”

Patrick Bamford to leave Leeds United in January window?

With the striker sustaining a new injury at Thorp Arch, it could be difficult for the Whites to seal an exit before the January transfer window slams shut.

Daniel Farke is bound to be frustrated by Bamford’s lack of availability this season, but considering his knowledge and experience, he will still likely be an important figure in the dressing room.

Joe Gelhardt looks set to leave Elland Road on loan this month, with the player set for a medical in London [James Hogarth], which could leave Farke already one attacker down just 12 days into the window.
