We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said it will be interesting to see if Marcelo Bielsa sticks with the Leeds team that started against Fulham or the one that finished it stronger.
Robinson was talking after it was confirmed that both Patrick Bamford and Pablo Hernandez were fit to play against Luton.
Hernandez said himself he was available on media duties on Monday afternoon although added that he still wasn’t 100%.
He started the game against Fulham on the bench but came on at half-time, with Patrick Bamford coming off and Tyler Roberts moving upfront.
Leeds looked far more dominant in the second half and Robinson thinks it was a warning shot to Bamford from Bielsa for not pulling his weight.
However, Robinson thinks that Bamford will start tonight’s game against Luton.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “It will be interesting. Bielsa made those changes at half-time and it turns out they weren’t injuries, they were tactical changes.
“It will be interesting to see if he sticks with the team that finished or goes for the one that started.
“Bamford’s goal was a great finish. He’s got that, he can do that, he just can’t do it often enough. It was a goal he’s needed, though, and for him to get off the mark with such a good goal is brilliant for everybody.
“I think Tyler Roberts has shown that he can take that position if he’s asked to. I think he did it at Hull when he was outstanding.
“He looks like a goalscorer, he looks more of a threat in front of goal than Bamford, but I think Bamford will start against Luton – Bielsa has stuck by him this season.
“Maybe hauling Bamford off was him saying, you’re not doing what I wanted. If you’re not pulling your weight then I’m going to take you off and change things.
“Roberts has made a big case, though, and I think they looked much more of a threat in the second half when he was upfront.”
There will be some intrigue over the starting XI tonight.
There’s every chance that it will be unchanged and that Pablo Hernandez will start from the bench again.
However, Leeds certainly looked better in the second half against Fulham. Could this be the moment Bamford’s dropped?
