Live from Hillsborough: Corberan confirms Augustin injury update after Leeds U23s draw

Carlos Corberan has confirmed that Leeds United striker Jean-Kevin Augustin did not suffer an injury setback when playing for the Under-23s on Monday, and should be in training as normal on Tuesday.

Augustin, 22, started up front for Corberan’s side as they drew 2-2 against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Monday.

However, there was concern about the striker in the first half as he had to be treated on the pitch by a physio after taking a heavy blow.

He was down for a couple of minutes before being substituted off at half-time, although Leeds’ official Twitter account confirmed that this was a planned change.

Still, there were worries about Augustin and whether or not he had suffered an injury at Hillsborough – he hadn’t looked too steady as he was walking down the tunnel.

After the match, MOT Leeds News reporter Mark Smith managed to get an update on Augustin from Corberan.

“Everything is okay with Jean-Kevin,” Corberan told MOT Leeds News.

When asked if Augustin will train tomorrow (Tuesday), the Leeds Under-23s boss replied: “Yes, he should be all good.”

This is good news for Leeds fans but it wasn’t the dream ‘debut’ that fans had been hoping for.

Augustin didn’t look particularly sharp and he looked like he was carrying a fair amount of weight, something that Bielsa is a stickler about.

Bielsa likes to make sure that his players are completely up to speed both fitness-wise and with his tactics before calling them into his side.

It means that a first start could well still be weeks away, although at least it doesn’t look like he’s suffered an injury that could have kept him out for longer.

In other Leeds United news, fans have shared their thoughts on Augustin’s displays on Monday afternoon.
