'Not what we wanted to see' – Many Leeds fans react to Augustin display for U23s v Sheff Weds

Leeds fans are sweating a potential injury to Jean-Kevin Augustin after he was subbed off at half-time in the Under-23s game today following a heavy blow.

Augustin wasn’t in the squad to face Wigan on Saturday and Marcelo Bielsa got it in the neck for that from fans after Leeds lost 1-0.

However, they didn’t have to wait long to get their first glimpse of ‘Big Kev’ in a Leeds shirt as he started for the Under-23s today against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

It wasn’t exactly a fairytale debut though.

Augustin got precious little service in the opening 30 minutes, although he got his first sniff of goal just after the half-hour mark.

He ran back to say something to Charlie Cresswell who put him in shortly after, with Augustin drawing a good save from the Sheffield Wednesday keeper who got down low to his right to turn the ball away for a corner.

That was pretty much it for the first half, though, although worryingly he took a blow on the stroke of half-time that left him prostrate and Leeds fans in a mild sense of panic.

He got up after a few minutes and the medical staff gave the thumbs up, although he didn’t look too steady when he went off at half-time and he didn’t come back out for the second half.

We’ll have to hope that was the plan all along and that he’s not suffering from the knock.

Meanwhile, there were some Leeds fans who didn’t think he looked fit anyway and that he was carrying a few extra pounds…

Not all the fans were focused on that side of his fitness, though (and we’re in the camp that ‘Big Kev’ is athletic rather than out of shape).

Others were praying he was okay after the challenge that saw him grounded and needing attention from the physio.

So, was that enough to get him on the bench on Saturday?

We’ll have to wait and see but the big hope is that he doesn’t suffer any ill effects from that knock he took. That would be very Leeds.
