'Like a new signing' - Exclusive: Robinson backs rarely-seen Leeds starlet for big 20/21 impact

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United..

Paul Robinson has backed Ian Poveda to be like a “new signing” for Leeds United this season.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, the former Elland Road goalkeeper also suggested that summer arrivals Robin Koch and Rodrigo could have particularly big roles to play in the coming campaign.

Poveda made his second Premier League appearance of the season when he came on for the second half of last weekend’s clash against former club Manchester City.

And during an assessment of the Whites’ summer transfer business, Robinson highlighted the 20-year-old has a player who could have a major impact at Elland Road this term.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, he said: “I think Koch will prove to be a good signing.

“We’ve seen little bits of him, and in the short time that he’s played, I think he’s grown in stature. He seems to be getting a real rapport with Liam Cooper. I think that will be the most important signing going forward.

“Poveda looks like a new signing because he didn’t really play last year.

“I think Rodrigo will prove to be an outstanding signing. Raphinha, not really seen that much of, but we know he’s a top quality player. Leeds have spent well, and they’ve not overpaid for any players. They’ve paid sensible fees for top quality players.”

Poveda signed from Leeds in January on a free transfer following a four-year stint with City’s youth setup.

The young winger was limited to just four Championship appearances last term, however, with three of those coming from the bench.
