Leeds United told Kalvin Phillips transfer now possible as trio linked with Elland Road exit

Paul Robinson insists Leeds United could fund a move for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips by offloading players already out on loan.

Phillips has been linked with a return to Elland Road in the summer transfer window should the Whites earn promotion to the Premier League.

However, even if Leeds do return to the top flight, they may well have to break their transfer record to bring in Phillips from Man City.

While finding the funds to do that appears difficult on the face of it, former Leeds goalkeeper Robinson believes it is doable.

“We know all about PSR and FFP. That’s something Leeds will of course have to be wary of if they go up to the Premier League,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

“Selling some of these players out on loan could be a good source of revenue. At the same time, they’ll want to add some more quality to their squad.

“If you look at Marc Roca, Rasmus Kristensen, Brenden Aaronson and others, if you can stockpile money from those and put it towards a Kalvin Phillips deal, you won’t find many Leeds fans against that.”

How much did Man City pay for Kalvin Phillips?

It has only been two years since Phillips said goodbye to Leeds for a deserved move to City, yet his career has fallen off a cliff pretty much since the day he departed.

From a player described as a “machine” by midfield great Frank Lampard to someone who is now even struggling for playing time at loan club West Ham, it has been quite the plight.

The Citizens paid a reported £45million to sign the England international [Sky Sports], and it is likely that his current club will want something close to that if he is to move on this summer.

That said, City know Phillips’ stock has fallen and they risk having an unhappy player on the bench who is unlikely to be used by Pep Guardiola.

If that figure can be knocked down to £35m, say, then it would certainly give Leeds a decision to make if promoted to the Premier League.

Daniel Farke has some very talented central midfield options, but the German will no doubt want to add another player or two in that department.

And if Phillips can rediscover his form of old at Elland Road – he is only 28, after all – then it would be a shrewd piece of business.
