Leeds United told to stand by Rodrigo by pundit amid fan calls for sale

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United.

Paul Robinson wants Leeds United to stand by Rodrigo despite a number of fans calling for the forward to be sold.

Our panel of Leeds Super Fans hit out at the 30-year-old Spain international after his poor performance in the 1-0 defeat away at Southampton on Saturday.

One fan urged the Whites to “get rid” of the former Valencia star while another wanted Leeds’ record signing to be given away.

It has been a tough first year in West Yorkshire for Rodrigo and his recent performances up front, while Patrick Bamford has been injured, have raised more concerns.

However, Robinson is a fan of Rodrigo’s versatility and believes that with enough time and patience, the Spaniard will start to shine in Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News about the fans calling for Rodrigo to be sold, Robinson said: “He’s worth persevering with.

I think he’s a good player and his versatility does add something else to the squad.

If you look at how threadbare the squad is at the moment with four senior players injured and they really struggle.

If Leeds didn’t have Rodrigo in that squad…obviously they would bolster the squad with new players if he moved on.

But Rodrigo is a player with quality and we’re yet to see the best of him.”

Rodrigo has made nine appearances in all competitions for Leeds this season but is yet to contribute with a goal or an assist.
