Leeds United fans tear Rodrigo to shreds after 1-0 defeat v Southampton

Leeds United fans have had it with Rodrigo after the forward failed to impress in the 1-0 defeat to Southampton on Saturday.

Rodrigo, 30, has found life in West Yorkshire difficult since becoming Leeds’ record signing last summer when he arrived from Valencia for £27million [BBC Sport].

The Spain international, who was our marquee signing last year, has had very few strong performances, struggling to adapt to Marcelo Bielsa’s system when he’s playing either in the midfield or up front.

On Saturday, he played as a striker in the 1-0 defeat at St Mary’s.

And Rodrigo’s performance was so bad on the south coast that some of our panel of Leeds Super Fans want to see the Spaniard gone.

One blasted Rodrigo, saying he would like to see the club “give him away” while another has suggested that he’s a new version of Samuel Saiz.

Here is what they had to say:

Rodrigo made his 37th appearance in all competitions for Leeds on Saturday.

He’s scored seven goals and supplied two assists since his arrival and none of those goal contributions have come this season.

It’s clear that with Patrick Bamford injured and unavailable, Rodrigo isn’t good enough to spearhead Bielsa’s attack.

Against Southampton, stats by WhoScored say that Rodrigo failed to have a single shot at goal before he was substituted off in the 64th minute.

He also made just 18 accurate passes, didn’t make any key passes and won no aerial duels and completed no dribbles.

It was an ineffective and anonymous performance by someone who we should really be looking at as being one of our best players.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay says this big-name player could be axed by Bielsa when Leeds play Wolves next week.
