Leeds United to sign Chelsea player Alfie Gilchrist as Junior Firpo exit mooted
Paul Robinson has urged Leeds United to sign Chelsea defender Alfie Gilchrist on loan if Junior Firpo is sold this summer.
According to Football London, the Blues are prepared to listen to loan offers for their 20-year-old full-back in the summer transfer window, with Leeds waiting patiently to strike a deal.
In the similar position, is 27-year-old Firpo, who has just 12 months remaining on his current contract at Elland Road, though his future is unlikely to be decided this summer. [Yorkshire Evening Post]
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “If Leeds can cash in on Junior Firpo, and not let him run his contract down over the next 12 months, Alfie Gilchrist is a top player. Those are the types of players that, under Daniel Farke, will flourish and do well.
“I think he’d be given an opportunity. Looking in from the outside, it seems the bigger characters in the dressing room have been moved out. It seems like Farke likes to work with a young group of players, those that aren’t necessarily huge personalities in the dressing room.
“I think Firpo is one of those players, so he could be one that will move on this summer. You look at Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper and others, the manager doesn’t like the big characters around, from what I’ve seen.
“A player like Gilchrist coming in would be a good fit for the manager’s regime.”
Should Leeds United replace Junior Firpo with Alfie Gilchrist this summer?
Fans at Elland Road have come to love Firpo, having experienced a solid second half of the 2023/24 campaign, ending the Championship season on seven assists.

However, with just 12 months left on his contract, the Whites might be tempted to cash in rather than lose the player on a free transfer next summer, which would allow for someone like Gilchrist to thrive.
It could be a very risky move from Leeds, though the Chelsea full-back showed promising signs towards the end of last season.
In other Leeds United news, the club remain in the transfer race to sign Tottenham’s Joe Rodon despite a new update emerging from the Premier League.
