Leeds United to prioritise ‘pressing needs’ amid Owen Wijndal transfer development
Dan Bardell believes Leeds United have more pressing transfer priorities than signing Owen Wijndal from Ajax before the 30 August deadline.
The Whites are in competition with Werder Bremen and Galatasaray over a move for the 24-year-old Netherlands full-back [AD].
With Junior Firpo already at Elland Road, it doesn’t appear that another senior option in that position is needed in the current window.
Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has urged Daniel Farke to prioritise transfers in other areas of the pitch that are needed right now.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Bardell said: “I don’t think left back is a priority position for Leeds. Wijndal wouldn’t come in and be a guaranteed success.
“He has been highly rated in the past and people thought he was going to be the next big thing at left back and it obviously hasn’t worked out.
“Now he finds himself being linked with Leeds. I think they have more pressing needs in the last few days of the transfer window than worrying about signing another left-back.“
Leeds United interested in Owen Wijndal from Ajax
The Whites are looking to build a squad ready for the Championship despite losing a large number of their key players.
Farke’s back line has been left mainly untouched with Archie Gray the main departure after spending a lot of time at right back last season.
Jayden Bogle has come in and now it appears that Wijndal could be brought in from the Netherlands as a somewhat versatile option for the defence at Elland Road.
It is unclear as to how much he could cost but with the experienced option of Junior Firpo already at the club, a new player in his position could prove to be a waste of funds.

There is an element of excitement from supporters to be linked with players from Ajax but this one, the club aren’t going to improve by signing.
