Leeds United stuck in new battleground and they do not like it – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Leeds United are stuck in the battleground between the Premier League and the Football League with the independent regulator plans.

It has been shared that the Whites were involved in a meeting with Government officials over their concern regarding the new plans for English football.

The finance expert has admitted that most complaints are due to financial distribution as it could hurt them in the pocket, something no club will like or want.

“This has been one of the sticking points with the regulator full stop,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“The battleground between the Premier League and the Football League, and we know that clubs move between those two systems and that’s when at any given time that with clubs, take Leeds as a Premier League club, the proposal of the regulator around financial distribution and also looking at parachute payments is something that actually hurts them as a Premier League club, particularly as a Premier League club.

We talk about getting rid of parachute payments or re-distributing them, which would have a significant effect on Leeds. If they are a Championship club, it goes the other way, but it wouldn’t go that way for three years as that is when the payments would trigger.

It goes back to the short-term nature of football, clubs are looking at the next year, they’re not looking at the years after. It comes down to other Premier League clubs that are really against the regulator, it’s broadly around financial distribution and parachute payments as it hurts them in the pocket and they don’t like it.”

Javi Gracia and his squad do not need these added complications with regulation and so on, they must concentrate on staying in the Premier League in the first place.

Leeds could well be in the Championship by the time they come into force, so rather than worrying about that right now, it is all about matters on the pitch – with the board just muddying the water yet again.

In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
