Leeds United: Sky Sports pundit slams Jesse Marsch signings as Marc Roca transfer completion
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Paul Robinson is completely underwhelmed by Leeds United’s transfer business since the season ended despite Marc Roca’s arrival from Bayern Munich last week.
Roca, 25, had his move to Elland Road confirmed by the Whites on 17 June. He joins midfielder Brenden Aaronson and right-back Rasmus Kristensen in joining Jesse Marsch’s side.
Despite being a Spanish central midfielder who’d spent two years at Bayern, Robinson is unhappy with the lack of big signings at Elland Road.
Leeds were almost relegated last season and with Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips strongly linked with moves away from United, Robinson is hoping for better than Roca, Aaronson and Kristensen.
“It’s signing a ‘potentially good’ player. It’s not signing a player that’s been playing week in and week out in the Bundesliga,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.
“He’s not proven himself at Bayern Munich, which is why he’s had to move on.
“The three signings they’ve got at the moment, the due diligence has been done on them but they’re pretty underwhelming if you consider Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips potentially leaving.
“If they’re the three replacements, it doesn’t sit well at the moment.”
Arsenal were widely reported to have tabled an opening bid for Raphinha earlier this week [22 June, Sky Sports].
It was rejected by Leeds, who are also said to be bracing themselves for a Manchester City bid for Kalvin Phillips [15 June, The Athletic].
Once one or both of those are sold, it’ll no doubt ramp up the quality of player available to Leeds as they’ll have more money to spend.
In other Leeds United news, documents have been exchanged for this player to leave Leeds after two weeks of going back and forth.
