Leeds United exchange documents with Bari for over two weeks to complete Elia Caprile transfer

Bari are on the verge of signing Leeds United goalkeeper Elia Caprile, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper reported via their print edition on Thursday (23 June, page 29) that “documents have been exchanged” between Leeds and the Italian Serie B club “for 15 days” in order to get the deal done.

It is understood that Caprile will compete for the number one spot at Bari once his move is rubber-stamped.

All but done

Caprile’s stay at Elland Road has been short but sweet.

We never really expected the former Italy Under-18 international to break into the senior squad with Illan Meslier very clearly ahead of him in the pecking order so it’s no shock that he’ll be leaving with no appearances.

He did seem to be Marcelo Bielsa’s third-choice goalkeeper in the 2020/21 season when he was named on the bench in the Premier League a few times.

However, he’s on his way out of Leeds now after what must have been a decent loan spell in Serie C with Pro Patria.

Caprile spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan with the Serie C club but couldn’t help them get promoted as he made 39 appearances in all competitions and kept 13 clean sheets.

Bari, however, have been promoted to Serie B so Caprile should get the chance to play in a very big stadium in a very competitive league against some good sides.

As he’s expected to be battling for the number one spot at Bari, there’s a good chance he could play against the likes of Genoa, Palermo, Parma, Cagliari and Venezia.

It should be very good for his development and we wish Caprile all the best back in Italy.

In other Leeds United news, this player has made a big decision on his future after a big-money bid was made for him by the Whites.
