Leeds United sent transfer warning after Cheikhou Kouyate news from Thorp Arch
Dan Bardell has urged Leeds United off signing a free agent and believes Daniel Farke should utilise the academy to cover Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev.
The Whites have been linked to bringing in a short-term midfield option to cover for the injured duo.
This has seen Cheikhou Kouyate at Thorp Arch for several days with any transfer said to be in the balance as things stand [Adam Pope, 12 October].
Despite that news, Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell has suggested that recruiting from within would be a better option at Elland Road rather than a free agent signing.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Bardell said: “Obviously they are a bit short at the moment. I think they were short anyway and injuries have just added to that.
“I never think that it’s worth just signing a player for the sake of it. Leeds have got such a thriving academy I think that fans would rather see them utilise that rather than a short-term deal for the sake of it.
“I’d be wary of entering that free agent market when they’ve got the academy, I think they’re better off looking at what they’ve already got.“
Leeds United warned off free agent signing
It has been a rough patch for Daniel Farke at Elland Road which has seen him lose his two starting midfielders in back-to-back games.
The Whites do have positive options to step into the place of Ampadu and Gruev but no one to match their consistency and quality.
Summer signings Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka have filled that void since the injuies, but if something happens to them, it will be damaging for Leeds and their promotion hopes.

Charlie Crew could be someone that Farke could look to get more out of before rushing to bring in Kouyate on a free.
