Ethan Ampadu was spotted punching the ground after a tackle before being taken off for Leeds United against Coventry City, Beren Cross has shared.

The Whites secured a 3-0 win against Mark Robbins' side at Elland Road on Saturday 28 September thanks to goals from Wilfried Gnonto, Jayden Bogle and Joel Piroe.

Despite the positive result, Daniel Farke will be concerned after his captain went off after 41 minutes due to an injury concern, replaced by Ao Tanaka.

Cross reported via X: "Ampadu hurt and punching the turf. Went in for one of the tackles of the season on Sheaf and nearly created a goal for Leeds."

Ethan Ampadu injury for Leeds United against Coventry City

It was a good day at Elland Road which saw the home side bounce back to winning ways at home after defeat last time out.

Against Burnley, the Whites had the better of the chances but just couldn't make them count as the Clarets took home all three points.

It was better against Cardiff City and that performance continued into this week as Gnonto scored after just 16 minutes.

There is no doubt that the atmosphere was dampened somewhat when Ampadu was forced off in the first half given how important he is to Farke's side.

This saw Tanaka come on in the Welshman's place which does show how positive the squad depth is at Elland Road right now.

That won't take away from the disappointment to see the skipper walk down the tunnel after a positive start to the campaign.

Given that he was punching the turf after picking up the injury, it probably isn't looking positive for Ampadu.
