Leeds United ready to seal Kalvin Phillips transfer as 49ers to invest at Elland Road
Dan Plumley has insisted that the 49ers Enterprises will invest at Leeds United if they are promoted to the Premier League this season.
Kalvin Phillips looks to be first on the hitlist in West Yorkshire, with £30million thought to be enough to get a sensational return deal over the line.
The finance expert admitted that investing is necessary after promotion, and if Phillips hits the ground running, it would be a great move.
“It’s also the necessary evil of having to invest in your squad if you get re-promoted,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“If he is going to command that kind of fee, then it is a transfer that depends on Leeds being back in the Premier League, I don’t think you make those kinds of transfers for that kind of value in the Championship.
“Assume promotion and you are then looking at your squad, we know Leeds will be looking to invest, if you think you can tempt him back and resurrect that player, we know he is in there, then it is potentially a good outlay.
“It is a significant figure and you have got to be careful, but I think Leeds will spend a bit if they go up and he will be a player they are targeting with good reasoning.
“If it comes off, it looks a very good transfer but it is dependent on promotion for sure.”

Leeds United to sign Kalvin Phillips?
This would split opinion around Elland Road, with the midfielder enduring an awful two years since leaving the club to join Manchester City.
After hardly playing under Pep Guardiola, a January loan move has seen that nightmare continue at West Ham, as he was caught swearing at fans.
Sometimes, it is best to ignore the past – time will tell on this one.
In other Leeds United news, former striker Jermaine Beckford was baffled by Joel Piroe’s late missed chance as they lost 2-1 at Coventry.
