Leeds United ownership was on verge of ‘financial restraints’ – Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson has hailed the Leeds United players after they pulled off a dramatic last-day win over Brentford to secure their Premier League survival.

While Burnley lost to Newcastle on Sunday (22 May), the Whites still had to do better than their result.

They did so in style with Jack Harrison scoring a late goal away at Brentford to secure a 2-1 win.

Burnley joined Norwich and Watford in being relegated, a fate which Robinson feels would have caused shockwaves at Elland Road – especially in the boardroom.

“It was a gutsy performance, they showed a whole lot of courage and determination,” said Robinson to MOT Leeds News.

I think the fact they’re in the Premier League again is a huge boost for the club and for the city.

Falling out of the Premier League after two years would have been a big anti-climax and it would have been a long way back because a lot of top players would have left.

It would have left the club’s ownership in doubt with the financial restraints the Championship brings and I just think it would have been a huge blow after 16 years of exile to then go back after only two seasons.

Everything they worked for would have been thrown away in 18 months and getting out of the Championship again, as we know, is one of the hardest things to do.

It’s a great achievement.

It was a huge occasion for a lot of those players and it’s never nice to go and play a football match when you know you have to win to be safe.

It was an incredible day and the players deserve all the credit.”

Leeds are now set for their third consecutive season in the Premier League and already looked as though they’re going to invest in their squad.

In other Leeds United news, this player is set to undergo a medical “soon” with the Whites.
