Leeds United news: Pundit lets rip at Luke Ayling over 'terrible' incident

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson has hit out at Luke Ayling after the Leeds United right-back was shown a straight red card in the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday (8 May).

Ayling, 30, had his initial yellow card upgraded to a red card after VAR called referee Chris Kavanagh to review his two-footed lunge on Gabriel Martinelli.

Due to there being just three matches left to play this season, Ayling will not be available again for Leeds until the 2022/23 campaign kicks off.

Ayling’s red card has left the Whites in the lurch as they’re now without their only recognised senior right-back for the final three games when Jesse Marsch will be aiming to avoid relegation.

Robinson is angry with Ayling and believes it was an obvious sending off.

“It was frustration,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

He’s an established professional who knows the game inside out and it was an error of judgement.

It was a terrible tackle and he put his team in a predicament they didn’t need to be in.

I was at the game and as soon as I saw the tackle, I went inside and watched it again on the screen.

You could see it was going to be a red card.

It was a poor error of judgement by him and it was a tackle that didn’t need to be made.”

Ayling has played 26 times in the Premier League for Leeds this season and his contract at Elland Road expires next summer.

In other Leeds United news, Gary Neville has mocked this Leeds chief after he was spotted by Sky Sports’ cameras.
