Leeds United must take opportunity to sign Joe Rodon as Ben White comparison made

Paul Robinson believes Leeds United have an opportunity to sign Joe Rodon this summer despite missing out on promotion to the Premier League.

The Welshman has experienced an incredible season on loan at Elland Road, with it being made very clear the Whites would like him to stay and the player is open to a permanent deal.

However, missing out on promotion to the Premier League could have a detrimental effect on the transfer, especially if Tottenham are offered a better deal from a Premier League team this summer.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I think they need to get him on a permanent – he’s been outstanding this season with Ethan Ampadu at centre-half. If Liam Cooper moves on, it’s an area they’ll need to recruit in anyway, but it’s whether they can actually get a deal done.

“He’s had that good a season that I think there’ll be a number of suitors for him. We know he’s not going to be integrated back into the Tottenham squad; Ange Postecoglou is moving his team forward, so there’s an opportunity to buy the player.

“I suspect Leeds won’t be the only team at the table because of the season he’s had. He’s played really well so I suspect some Premier League teams will be looking at him. It’ll come down to his personal preference, in a similar way to Ben White.

“Leeds tried their hardest to sign him. Now look at what he’s gone on to achieve at Arsenal. I think, with Rodon, in a similar way they’ve got it all on to make the deal permanent, and I think they should.”

Leeds United to learn from Ben White transfer saga

Rodon is in a very similar situation to that of Arsenal’s White, who could have sealed a very different future had he signed permanently at Elland Road.

Joe Rodon is a major coup for Leeds United

The current Leeds loanee is in an entirely different predicament, however, with only a handful of clubs showing interest and his parent club seemingly fine to see him leave this summer.

Following a sensational season in the Championship, and suffering heartbreak in the Championship play-off final, he will be dying to get back to regular club football, having become a fan favourite at Elland Road.
