Leeds United miss out on ‘massive coup’ as Daniel Farke backed for new signings

Dan Bardell has urged Leeds United to focus on rebuilding their squad after losing Crysencio Summerville to West Ham.

The Hammers announced the signing of the Dutchman on 3 August, activating a private release clause in his contract at Elland Road.

After signing the 22-year-old for just £1.3m from Feyenoord in 2020 [BBC Sport] the club has secured a positive profit.

Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Bardell believes the Whites need to reinvest well after inevitably losing their key player.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Bardell said: “I think he was always going to go. He’d been linked with plenty of other clubs.

It’s really rare that a player can have as good a season as he did in the Championship and not get promoted. Staying would have been a massive coup for Leeds.

They’ve sold well in terms of fees but have lost some crucial players. They’ve got to focus on incomings and reshaping their squad now.

Leeds have maximised what they could have got for them and now they have to reinvest.

Leeds United prepare for life without Crysencio Summerville

The Whites relied heavily on the influence of the versatile forward in the second tier last campaign who won the league’s Player of the Season award.

To secure this individual title while not achieving promotion to the Premier League will have been greatly frustrating.

Hope had built amongst the Elland Road faithful throughout the summer that the Dutchman would stay as the season opener against Portsmouth neared.

As quickly as a move to West Ham was rumoured, Summerville was being announced in East London to the disappointment of Leeds fans.

Links to replacement options like Jonathan Rowe will ease the pain for supporters but the complexity of the upcoming season has only increased by the sale.
