Leeds United form good relationship with Bournemouth after transfer announcement at Elland Road
Paul Robinson believes Leeds United and Bournemouth are forming a relationship following another loan deal between the two sides.
The club confirmed [11 July] the signing of Joe Rothwell on a season-long loan, adding to the deals for Luis Sinisterra, Jaidon Anthony and Tyler Adams last summer.
The 29-year-old arrived at Elland Road shortly before Glen Kamara’s permanent move to Ligue 1 outfit Rennes, offering Daniel Farke another option in midfield ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I think he’s a good player, and Leeds and Bournemouth clearly have a good relationship because of the players they’ve traded in the last 12-18 months, that have gone between the two clubs.
“He’s a good player who will come in, knowing the Championship well, and will play. Whether he’s a direct replacement for Glen Kamara, it’s arguable. But he’s the type of player that Daniel Farke likes.
He’s a hard-working player, one you don’t seem to hear much about off the field, and he’ll fit well into the manager’s system. From the inside looking in, it doesn’t feel like Farke enjoys working with big characters.”
Leeds United and Bournemouth work together as Joe Rothwell deal done
Loan deals with be extremely important for the Whites next term as they target Premier League promotion for the second consecutive season.
Joe Rodon and Connor Roberts both played roles for Leeds during the 2023/24 campaign, though the former’s contribution was far more important, earning himself a permanent move back to Elland Road.
With Sinisterra and Adams both going to Bournemouth on permanent deals last season, the Premier League side looked to have repaid the favour with the addition of Rothwell to Farke’s squad.
While the midfielder only managed three Premier League starts for the Cherries last season, there are no doubts about the player’s ability on the pitch.
He spent the second half of last season on loan with Southampton, where he scored four goals in 16 matches as the Saints were promoted ahead of Leeds.
In other Leeds United news, Daniel Farke will need to make a decision on Charlie Crew after the latest Elland Road exit.
