Leeds United: Easy PSR breach on cards at Elland Road in Premier League

Dan Plumley has admitted that a PSR breach would be easier to hit Leeds United in the Premier League after spending this season in the Championship.

If the Whites were promoted back to the top flight, the PSR threshold would be lower for the accounting year spent in the Championship.

The football finance expert admitted it would only be easier to breach depending on the strategy Leeds took if promoted, with spending more coming with more risk.

“Certainly, if you look at the raw numbers and the limit being much lower if you’re floating between the Championship and Premier League for those reasons,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“As we have seen with Forest, it is certainly easier to breach in numbers terms.

I guess whether you do or don’t depends on the strategy you pursue following promotion and there are clubs who have spent quite heavily following promotion to try and compete instantly.

There are clubs who have perhaps not invested heavily in the playing side of things and have come straight back down in some instances, so there is the breach being easier if you are running the numbers game.

If you don’t spend a lot of that money in the Premier League though, then you can work it the other way and you’re way ahead of the breach as you’re banking the majority of the TV money for other reasons.

It does depend on the strategy, if you’re looking to invest heavily in the playing side of things then you run the risk, but if you don’t spend that money it is less of an issue.”

Leeds United to be hit by PSR breach?

With Leeds one of the few clubs during their time in the Premier League not to break financial rules, this appears very unlikely.

After threatening legal action against the likes of Everton, Nottingham Forest have also been charged and Leicester are now skating on thin ice.

Thankfully, the Whites appear to be much better run and the 49ers can be thanked for that right now.
