Dan Plumley has insisted that the Leeds United board did not need to increase their season ticket prices after the 10% jump at Elland Road.
The finance expert admitted that no Premier League club needs to do it, but he believes that they will be under the impression that every little helps them become better on and off the pitch.
Leeds currently have a waiting list of over 20,000 fans for new season tickets at Elland Road, and the new prices does not appear to have deterred too many, despite causing anger.
“It always seems like a jump and one thing I will say on this, they don’t need to do that which is kind of what then upsets the fans a little bit so I understand that,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“So, I think in the Premier League, as an example, that decision doesn’t need to be made, if it’s in the Championship then obviously we know matchday revenues are more important.
“That’s the thing that is always in the back of your mind whenever you’re a Premier League club, you don’t have to increase ticket prices because the money from broadcasting is so good.
“That said, the position of the club will be that every little helps and we need to grow on and off the pitch so pushing the ticket prices up for a better quality of football in the Premier League is the argument, I get that.
“I think my line is always when look at season ticket prices when given what is going on in the world at the minute and how loyal the fans are, it understandably annoys fans a little bit.
“There is no real need to do that when you’re in the Premier League.”
In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
