We’re delighted to welcome former Premier League referee Keith Hackett to the MOT Leeds News team. Each week, Hackett will discuss the big moments from the latest Leeds United games and deliver his verdict on whether his successors got their calls right or wrong…

Keith Hackett has shared that Manchester United benefitted from the new VAR rules for their fourth goal against Leeds on Saturday.

Bruno Fernandes slotted home his hat-trick at Old Trafford, one that would have been disallowed last season for offside.

Hackett insisted that there was a review of the footage at the time, but fans no longer watch that live along with the game on television.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Hackett said, "The Manchester United fourth goal, where we saw Fernandes looking offside, initially.

"He then went onto score and you think there's going to be a video review, there was, under the new process we're not going to see that on television.

"The brilliant thing that has happened in Europe, they have adopted the Dutch system, they use the broadcast lines, but they broaden them.

"The benefit of the doubt goes to the attacking team."

Leeds United

Never win.

These are the decisions that never benefitted us in an attacking sense last season, and now they have changed, they have gone against us again.

Fernandes was judged to be somewhat in line with Luke Ayling for his third goal, despite being behind our two central defenders.

They are the rules now, and it looks as though we won't get to watch them reviewing the footage live as it happens.

That means our defence has been to be much better than they were on Saturday, and collectively stay or step up.

Hopefully, this benefits us much more as the season goes on.
