Keith Hackett responds to ‘Hogwash’ Jesse Marsch comments on Leeds United v Man City, he could contact FA

We’re delighted to welcome former Premier League referee Keith Hackett to the MOT Leeds News team. Each week, Hackett will discuss the big moments from the latest Leeds United games and deliver his verdict on whether his successors got their calls right or wrong…

Keith Hackett has urged Jesse Marsch to write to the PGMOL and FA with his concerns after Leeds United lost against Manchester City.

The ex-FIFA official labelled the American’s comments after the game as “hogwash” after he questioned many decisions.

Marsch was booked in the second half after serious questions, which led to him insisting that bigger teams get more decisions.

“One thing you’re not doing is concentrating on the technical area,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“You’ve got a fourth official that’s dealing with the technical areas, therefore, it’s the fourth official that’s said to the referee, come across and issue a yellow card.

“So, the only influence he has got is with the fourth official. I think that the PGMOL in the past, has a channel of communication that’s open to the manager to express his feelings, and I believe that it would have been better for Marsch to express his views directly to the PGMOL, the Premier League and the LMA, he’s new into the English game.

“The PGMOL has to respond if he makes a written comment, so he should put his views in writing to the PGMOL, he should copy the FA in. He will be surprised the influence that can come there and a debate can take place to allay fears.

“I think if he thinks his intervention and a yellow card has had an impact on the referee – Hogwash.”

Marsch had every right to question some of the decisions that were made in the defeat against Manchester City over the weekend.

The away side were handed some very questionable decisions, and it led to sarcastic applause and booking for the boss.

Hackett is right though, comments such as the one Marsch made after the game could lead to consequences from the FA.

Instead, a written complaint could sort it out behind the scenes, although that gives you nothing once the game has already gone.

Leeds are scrapping for their lives in the Premier League right now, and this is raw passion on the touchline – there will be more moments like this in our final four games.
