Keith Hackett: Mike Riley could arrange meeting with Marcelo Bielsa over Raphinha

We’re delighted to welcome former Premier League referee Keith Hackett to the MOT Leeds News team. Each week, Hackett will discuss the big moments from the latest Leeds United games and deliver his verdict on whether his successors got their calls right or wrong…

Keith Hackett has insisted that PGMOL boss Mike Riley could arrange a meeting with Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

Raphinha scored once again in the 1-1 draw with Leicester but was booked for taking his shirt off in the celebrations.

Hackett admitted it wasn’t the first time he has seen that this season and a behind-the-scenes meeting could help the winger understand.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Hackett said, “Mike Riley, the boss of the PGMOL lives in Leeds or in that area.

“He could call into Bielsa and pop in, let’s have a face-to-face with the player so he understands.”

Smart?

The last thing the Whites need at this moment of the Premier League is Raphinha picking up five yellow cards.

It would lead to the Brazilian picking up a one-game suspension and that would be catastrophic given just how important he is.

Surely, Bielsa will have been shaking his head over the unnecessary booking on Sunday, but it was a personal nod to someone close who had passed away so no one can complain about that entirely.

Hopefully, we can get to that cut-off point later in the season where the five-card limit disappears and then we can forget about the suspension worry.

Could a meeting between Riley, Bielsa and Raphinha help that? We’re not 100% but hopefully, he can keep away from two more bookings.
