Joe Gelhardt unlikely to start for Leeds United any time soon – Paul Robinson
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United.
Joe Gelhardt is unlikely to be starting for Leeds United any time soon despite his impressive form, according to Paul Robinson.
The 19-year-old has started to break into Marcelo Bielsa’s senior squad this season and had a major impact against Wolves last Saturday.
After being substituted into the game, the ex-Wigan striker won the stoppage-time penalty that saw Rodrigo grab a late equaliser.

Gelhardt’s been a revelation for the Whites so far this season despite his limited game-time and there are understandably calls for him to start while Patrick Bamford is injured.
However, Robinson doubts the young forward will be named in Bielsa’s starting 11 any time soon as he continues to slowly adapt to life in men’s football.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “You’d think he’d get more opportunities now he’s had some and Bamford’s out.

“We don’t know the extent of his injury but there’s been a lot of calls for Gelhardt to play.
“I still think the manager will bring him in gently. I don’t think he’ll start games but we’ll see a lot more of him from the bench because of the impact he’s had.
“He’s a naturally gifted footballer, you can see the confidence he has.”
Gelhardt has played four times for Leeds’ first-team this season.
He’s also scored six goals in seven Premier League 2 outings for the Under-23s.
