Joe Gelhardt to Rangers transfer given seal of approval as Leeds exit nears
Paul Robinson believes a move to Rangers would be an “excellent” opportunity for Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt.
MOT Leeds News understands that the 22-year-old is frustrated with his lack of game time at Elland Road ahead of the January transfer window, with Rangers recently being linked [TEAMtalk].
Gelhardt has only made two Championship appearances this season, both from the bench, with the likes of Joel Piroe, Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph ahead of him in Daniel Farke’s pecking order.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “It would be a great move, especially for Rangers. They’ve got Danilo and Cyriel Dessers but they’ve not scored as prolifically as they would have wanted.
“Gelhardt is not getting game time and he’s not been an integral part of the squad. I think he’s a cracking, young player. He’s got a lot to give and Rangers is a big football club, who are competing in Europe.
“He can go and play north of the border and play in those competitions because he won’t be cup-tied. For him and his education, it would be a fantastic move. Again, I think he’ll have the choice of a number of clubs.
Leeds United to seal Rangers transfer for Joe Gelhardt?
“It’s important that he goes somewhere and plays because he’s already proven himself as an impact substitute. Now, it’s time for him to start games every week, putting a shirt on knowing that he’ll play if he scores.
“I think a move to Rangers would be excellent.”

Gelhardt has struggled for game time over the last couple of seasons, having only made two starts in the Championship last term and he is now being edged out even further.
Injuries have not helped the youngster’s cause at all, but with multiple players ahead of him in the pecking order, a January loan move seems like the most sensible idea for all parties.
