‘If you ban Leeds’ – Exclusive: Pundit reacts as Jim White claims ‘civil war’ brewing in Ch’ship

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that Leeds shouldn’t be banned from making transfers in the upcoming window after agreeing to defer player wages.

talkSPORT host Jim White talked about a potential “civil war” in the Championship and named Preston as a club who wanted Leeds, and any other clubs who had agreed wage deferrals, to be stopped from making transfers.

They argued the extra money in the bank would give clubs like Leeds an unfair advantage.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “I don’t think you can impose sanctions like this on teams.

“Clubs are managed by financial experts, by directors, who know what’s right for the club. If you ban Leeds from making transfers then you’re taking money out of football, it’s money teams would spend in the transfer market.

“But there are other questions too – are we even going to have a transfer window? If you talk about a two-week gap between this season ending and the next one starting, what’s going to happen with transfers?

“There are lots of clubs like Preston making noise at the moment, wanting parity with other clubs, saying, ‘if that clubs are doing that then we want them punished’, or ‘we don’t want to start playing because we don’t want to play in neutral venues’.

“Every single club has their own agenda and they all want the best for their own club. It’s a real web of decisions. There’s a lot of talk but we’re not hearing the decisions from the people at the top.”

Robinson makes a very good point here.

Clubs are breaking cover and going public over the myriad issues that are getting thrown up from the Coronavirus outbreak.

What the football world needs now is clarity and only the governing bodies can deliver that.

Meanwhile, blocking Leeds from trying to sign players like Ben White if they get promoted would seem ridiculously harsh.
