'Huge signing' – Exclusive: Paul Robinson names player Orta must sign if Leeds are promoted

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that Ben White would be a “huge signing” and “very important” for Leeds if they get promoted.

He said the club will need to strengthen all areas of their squad if they get promoted, but keeping hold of existing players will be just as important.

Leeds are massive favourites to go up at the second time of asking under Marcelo Bielsa but dropped two points on Saturday after taking a 3-0 lead against Cardiff.

They still have a buffer of 10 points back to third-placed Preston and can take another huge step towards the Premier League with a win against promotion rivals Fulham on Saturday.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “The players at the moment are good enough to go up and stay up but they definitely need to improve the squad.

“They have to keep hold of Kalvin Phillips, that’s important.

“Ben White would be a huge signing for me, it would be very important for Leeds.

“Brighton are clever at getting players signed up on long contracts before they go out on loan, in the hope they do well and that’s what White has done.

“Come next summer I imagine there’ll be a lot of Premier League clubs looking at Ben White with how well he’s played this season. There will be lots of competition.”

White is on loan from Brighton until the summer and while Leeds do not have an option to sign him permanently, he will surely be one of the club’s top targets if they go up.

He’s been brilliant at Leeds and helped them record the best defensive record in the Championship so far – despite the three goals they conceded on Saturday.
