Finance Expert: 49ers on course for collision course at Leeds United

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Leeds United and the 49ers Enterprises are on track for a collision course at Elland Road over numerous developments.

The appeal over FIFA demanding Jean-Kevin Augustin’s contract be paid alongside the threat of Premier League relegation and the impending takeover shows a complex chain of events.

The finance expert admitted that with rumours suggesting the American consortium are waiting to see what league Leeds will be in next season, much depends on these next two months.

“That’s where you lift it up and look at the bigger picture,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“This is obviously happening here and now, and there are another two big factors in the mix, one is the takeover and one is the Premier League status of the club as we are speaking right now.

All of those things are colliding as we know there are rumours behind the scenes that the 49ers are waiting to see where Leeds United are going to be before triggering that option, and this is not an incidental amount of money, it is manageable linked to this case.

That has implications dependent on the league status and takeover of the club as well, it’s just another complexity in that chain of events that is going to lead to that takeover at whatever point.

As always, it’s not just one item, there are bigger picture items at play in that mix.”

With things still being in Leeds’ hands, it will be an interesting six weeks ahead.

The 49ers are waiting to pull the trigger, leaving fans anxious at Elland Road with Andrea Radrizzani simply losing support with each passing day and that change is certainly needed.

In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
