Finance Expert: £150m Leeds United gamble after Andrea Radrizzani update on takeover

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Dan Plumley has insisted that a £150million could be on the horizon for Andrea Radrizzani as his time at Leeds United comes to a close.

The 49ers Enterprises are expected to complete their full takeover immediately should the Whites remain in the Premier League, but relegation could see Radrizzani stay on for another shot at promotion.

The finance expert admitted that the difference in revenue terms alone between the two divisions is up to £150million, so that could reflect on the takeover value too.

“It’s really tricky to put a true value on it,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“The difference in revenue terms is anything from £100-150million, so if you look at that from a valuation point of view, that is going to be the difference.

It’s interesting given all of the narrative we’ve seen that this will take place no matter what, but when the pressure is high, the short-term situation comes to light and people can change their minds on things.

So, the facts of it are that Leeds United are worth more from a takeover view as a Premier League club, so if they were to get relegated then you would look at a lower value in the Championship, so getting them promoted again would increase their value again and we know those figures are at play.

Individual owner motives and the reasons they change their minds or not are really tricky to get a handle on.”

The 49ers Enterprises will also likely have a big say on what happens in the summer, with the club seemingly theres if they press the button on the takeover.

Of course, relegation would likely change the agreed price to buy out Radrizzani, and all of that will come into play after 28 May when the season ends.

In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
