Exclusive: Pundit claims Leeds-linked ace prepping for Jan move after midweek development
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has claimed that the fact Leeds are being linked with forwards such as Rhian Brewster in the January window means Eddie Nketiah is “on his way”.
And he thinks that Brewster not playing for Liverpool this week suggests that a January move is being prepped.
Leeds are said to be drafting a list of replacements if Arsenal recall Nketiah over a lack of game time at Elland Road.
The young striker has yet to start in the Championship and is currently being used sparingly from the bench.
Football Insider has reported that Leeds are set for talks over a loan move for Brewster.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “If Leeds are being linked to players it would obviously say that he [Nketiah] is on his way and if that is the case, Leeds need to strengthen as Patrick Bamford can’t carry them for the rest of the season on his own.
“The link shows Leeds aren’t willing to spend again, that they’ll go into the loan market, and you know players of Brewster’s ilk, young players, he’s played in the EFL Cup, could get an opportunity by going on loan, getting game time, and showing what he can do.
“And I think him not being involved against Villa or in Qatar this week, shows there is potential for a move on the horizon. A player of his age would have been in the squad against Villa, so if he hasn’t played, it may be case of keeping him fit for a loan move.”
Speculation has been rife about Nketiah moving back to Arsenal in January ahead of another potential loan move, with Bristol City interested.
However, Arsenal look set to welcome Mikel Arteta as their new manager imminently and that could have a knock-on effect for Nketiah.
