Exclusive: Paul Robinson – This is what I think about Leeds signing Rhian Brewster

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster isn’t a proven goal-scorer and that Leeds should look elsewhere in January.

The Daily Star has reported that Leeds are in line for Brewster’s signature in January, with Jurgen Klopp willing to let him leave Liverpool on loan.

Leeds will need a new striker if Arsenal recall Eddie Nketiah because of a lack of game-time at Elland Road.

Nketiah hasn’t started a Championship game yet this season.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “Brewster isn’t proven. I think Leeds need someone proven, a proper Championship goal-scorer.

“We missed that last season, we’re missing it again this season.

“Someone like Dwight Gayle. If we had him last season we’d have gone up easily. Last season, all teams in the top six had a player who scored over 20 goals. We had [Kemar] Roofe who scored 15 and left in the summer.

“I don’t know if they’ve got the money to bring in that type of player [Gayle], and Bielsa has said he wants to work with a smaller squad.

“Added to that, a 15 goal striker is tough to find in January, but that’s who Leeds need.”

Bamford has scored nine goals in the Championship now and that would put him on course for a 20-goal season.

We don’t know what’s going to happen with Nketiah yet and Arsenal are in flux with Mikel Arteta potentially heading in to be the new manager.

That could have an impact on whether Nketiah is recalled or not. We’d prefer him to stay, even if that means Leeds not signing anyone in January.
