Exclusive: Paul Robinson thinks Leeds may have to make new signing in Jan despite Orta comments

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson thinks Leeds might need to sign at least one player in January, despite director of football Victor Orta warning it was going to be a quiet transfer window.

Talking to on Thursday, Orta said, “I can say that it will be a quiet market for Leeds. We have information and ideas but I believe little in the winter market.”

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said,The summer wasn’t exactly busy – they bought loan signings in. I think they’ve probably set out that they’re not going to spend a lot of money on players.

“I’d love to see them go and get a striker who will score 15 goals before the end of the season and I think the goalkeeper situation could be a problem if Kiko gets banned.

“That’s something that they may need to look at, we don’t know what’s going to happen there. I suspect that they will appeal and appeal as long as they possibly can to drag it out as near to January so that if he does get banned, it will only be a short number of games. If he is banned now you lose him for the whole of December.

“If he is banned for a few games they may have to look into the market for a replacement. I’ve been a critic of his – a constructive critic of his – but I think he’s grown into this league, I think he’s learnt a lot and I think his recent performances have been important to Leeds.

“I think if they do miss him for 10 or 12 games it will be a huge loss.”

Casilla is facing an FA ban after being charged with using racist language on the pitch. He has until November 27 to respond to the charge after Leeds secured an extension.

Leeds currently have striker Eddie Nketiah on loan from Arsenal but he hasn’t been used much by Marcelo Bielsa, with the youngster still waiting for his first league start.

Nketiah is currently out injured and Leeds fans are fearing that he may be recalled by Arsenal in January.
