Exclusive: 'Outstanding' – Paul Robinson selects his Leeds player of the season so far
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that 22-year-old Ben White has been the best player for Leeds this season.
The Brighton loanee has taken to the Championship in style and impressed while playing the full 90 minutes in all 16 league games for his new club.
“Ben White has been the best player for Leeds this season,” Paul Robinson said, talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News.
“I think he’s been outstanding since he’s come in,” he added. “It’s a position where we lost Pontus Jansson in the summer and it was a position we needed a quality replacement in.
“They’ve not bought players, they’ve brought players in on loan but I thought it was a very, very astute signing, the scouting network has unearthed a real gem.
“He’s been out on loan before, he served his time, he just seems to fit with [Liam] Cooper alongside him. He’s learning every game. He is still very young, is comfortable with the ball at his feet, is very comfortable in there and he is an accomplished defender.
“The only problem for Leeds is if they haven’t got a buy clause at the end of the season, because Brighton will certainly want him back.”
With White at the centre of defence, Leeds have kept eight clean sheets in 16 games and only conceded nine goals, the best record in the whole of the EFL.
That’s just as well, as Leeds have struggled at the other end. Luton have scored more goals than Leeds and they’re currently 21st in the Championship, one spot above the drop zone.
Brighton manager Graham Potter has said he is delighted with the way the loan move is progressing.
