Exclusive: ‘Strongly believe…’ – Paul Robinson predicts when Leeds will secure promotion

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that he “strongly believes that Leeds are going up” after their run of five wins in a row.

That’s a change of heart from Robinson, who has been extremely cautious up to this point – along with most Leeds fans.

He’s now gone as far as to say that he thinks four wins from the final nine will be enough to get Leeds up, with teams around them dropping points.

That could see Leeds get the points they need as early as the Friday night game against Blackburn on Friday April 3.

However, Leeds wouldn’t be mathematically promoted at that point unless teams around them had a terrible run of results.

The earliest Leeds could secure promotion if teams around them win is the Easter Monday clash against Swansea.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “To be completely honest, I think Leeds are almost there.

“Look around them and the teams are doing their best to drop points. Fulham dropped another two at the weekend and the gap is seven points again. I think that’s just about it.

“I think another four wins, to be honest, would do it, and I strongly believe that Leeds are going up.

“You don’t want to say it and the fans don’t want to say it, but from the outside looking in, if I didn’t have the affinity with Leeds, if it wasn’t my club, I’d say they were definitely up.

“The way they’re playing, the confidence… they had that huge blip, they let that massive gap go, but to be able to recover mentally and on the pitch and get those results and build that gap back up again, shows how mentally and physically strong they are.”

Leeds are seven points ahead of Fulham in third and barring a complete disaster, they’re the only side that can realistically catch Leeds.

That makes the game against Fulham a week on Wednesday absolutely season-defining.

A win would mean Leeds have one foot in the Premier League but even a draw would be a good result.
