Exclusive: Paul Robinson outlines what Leeds will do in January if QSI money doesn't come in
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson believes that Leeds will not buy anyone in January unless there’s a cash injection from QSI.
Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani has been in talks with the Qatar Sports Investments group, and the Daily Star reported recently that the club was on the “brink” of a takeover with an initial £10m investment on the cards.
There’s still a possibility that could happen before the close of the January window.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “If Leeds don’t bring some money in then I don’t think we’ll see them do a lot of business in the transfer window.
“Bielsa has said that he’s happy with his squad, he’s happy with a smaller squad and unless players like Nketiah leave then I can’t see them doing any business whatsoever – especially not buying players.
“If players do leave then they will need to be replaced but unless some cash comes in, it will be the loan market again.
“There’s talk of Brewster from Liverpool, but it looks like he’s maybe going to Swansea.
“The issue is for Leeds finding a good player to replace Nketiah because they’ll have seen the amount of game time that he’s got.
“You go to the Premier League to get a striker to come, then they look at the fact that Nketiah’s gone back because of not playing and it makes your task 10 times more difficult.”
There’s still been no official confirmation as to whether Nketiah is going to be recalled from his loan early.
Marcelo Bielsa said that he hadn’t heard from Arsenal in his Thursday press conference, just over a week before the January window opens.
One factor that could be telling is the introduction of Mikel Arteta as the new Arsenal manager. He takes charge of the team for the first time on Boxing Day.
