Exclusive: Paul Robinson claims Leeds already have replacement for Pablo Hernandez
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson believes that Leeds United already have a replacement for Pablo Hernandez and that Gjanni Alioksi can do “a good job” there while the playmaker is out.
Hernandez has been ruled out of action for a month after breaking down with a hamstring problem in the first minutes of the game against Fulham on Saturday.
Alioski came on and helped create the Leeds goal scored by Patrick Bamford. He put in a slide-rule pass for Eddie Nketiah and his parried shot fell to the Leeds striker.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “The Hernandez injury is a massive blow… It didn’t look good did it?
“Alioski came on for him and I think he can do a good job in there.
“With Alioski, I think they’ve got enough in the squad to cope without Hernandez – it just depends on how long it’s going to be before he’s back.
“He’s a key, key player to what Leeds do, creatively, going forward.
“Alioski has been a bit-part player this season, but he’s also kept himself right and ready when he’s come on.
“I think he has got enough to cover it but let’s just hope for Leeds’ sake that Hernandez doesn’t end up being out for longer than a month because we can’t afford to slip at this time of the season.”
The Fulham game marked the halfway point of the season and Leeds are in a strong position, despite dropping five points in the last two games.
There’s a gap of eight points back to third and Leeds have a big chance to cement their promotion credentials over the festive period, with games against Preston, West Brom and Birmingham.
The next game is against Preston on Boxing Day with a kick-off time of 5.15pm. The game is live on Sky Sports.
