Exclusive – Paul Robinson hails versatile Leeds star who has become a better player under Bielsa

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has praised versatile Leeds star Stuart Dallas and his ability to adapt to almost any position on the pitch.

Dallas starred for Northern Ireland in the 0-0 draw against the Netherlands on Saturday and while the result wasn’t enough for them to secure automatic qualification, they will get another chance in the play-offs.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson hailed Dallas as “outstanding”.

“He’s played all over the pitch for Leeds this year,” Robinson said, “he’s been outstanding.”

“We saw him play the same way for Northern Ireland the other night against Holland… I was actually working on the game.

“We were checking out the formation before the game, working out what Michael O’Neill was doing and we couldn’t work out who was playing right-back. The UEFA feed came in and had Corry Evans at right-back, then someone else, then I just went ‘you know what? Dallas will play at right-back.’

“He’s played everywhere else this year, so he can play there and he turned in another very good performance.

“I think he has improved under Bielsa, even for a player of his age. I definitely think he has got better in the 18 months Bielsa has been at Leeds.

“I think he has responded to his ways and I think he has become better as a player.”

Dallas has played all 16 league games for Leeds this season, filling in at right-back when Luke Ayling was out injured, before being moved to midfield and left-back in the last six games.

He’s played across the same positions for Northern Ireland and gets a chance to go up against one of the best teams in the world tonight as Michael O’Neill’s side play Germany in their final qualifying match.
