Exclusive: Paul Robinson claims Bielsa will drop Leeds player to combat threat v Fulham
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said that Aleksandar Mitrovic is the main threat for Fulham and that Marcelo Bielsa will drop Gaetano Berardi and put Liam Cooper back in his starting XI to combat him.
Bielsa confirmed that Cooper is fit and that he will be in the squad for the Championship game on Saturday.
However, in his Thursday press conference he didn’t say whether the centre-back would start or not.
Berardi has been standing in for Cooper while he’s been out with injury – he’s started the last three games for Leeds and played well.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “Mitrovic is Fulham’s main threat.
“He [Bielsa] has played White and Berardi as a partnership in the last couple of games, with Ayling wide.
“Whether he plays three or four is yet to be seen. If Cooper is fit, he’ll come back in place of Berardi.
“Bielsa has played the 4-1-4-1 formation in the last couple of games, which is kind of his go-to formation with Kalvin Phillips sat in front of them, and I think having Kalvin Phillips sitting in front of White-Cooper will be of huge importance as far as stopping Mitrovic goes.”
Leeds are two points behind West Brom at the top of the table and there’s a 12-point gap back to Fulham in sixth.
Fulham have lost three games in a row but are still Leeds’ biggest rivals for automatic promotion according to the bookies.
The game plays at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon with a 3pm kick-off.
